Former teacher found not guilty on all five counts

APPLETON – Former teacher and basketball coach … collapsed into his chair Thursday night as the jury foreman read the fifth of five not guilty verdicts on sexual assault charges.

… was cleared of three counts of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of sexual assault by a school staff member.
The charges stemmed from alleged assaults of two girls, now 16 and 25, while they were students at Hortonville Middle and High schools.
Outagamie County Dist. Atty. Carrie Schneider said she feared this verdict could discourage other sexual assault victims from coming forward.
Schneider admitted the case was difficult without corroborating evidence or a confession.
She said the case would have been stronger had the judge, Philip Kirk, not disallowed a pair of recorded phone calls the older alleged victim made to … in March 2006…
